Remedial massage

Remedial Massage

Massage is defined as `a mechanical form of therapy in which the soft tissues are made more pliable, promoting increased blood flow and healing'.

Remedial massage can be gentle or firm depending on the client's requirements. There may be a focus on specific muscles and tendons or a whole body massage can be given. An oil or lotion is applied directly on the skin and the therapist hands will apply pressure on the client's body.

A professional attitude is maintained by the massage therapist throughout the massage. A variety of techniques on the body may be used: gliding (effleurage), kneading the soft tissues (petrissage), and percussion (tapotement).

Benefits of Remedial Massage include:
◊  Stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed.
◊  Calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort.
◊  Toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility.
◊  Assistance with repairing of tissues.
◊ An easing of stiffness and tension.

Regular massage maintenance will increase your overall sense of wellbeing for optimum physical and mental health. Sessions usually take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on whether the practitioner will just address a specific area or give a whole body massage.
